Disaster Response and Recovery

Electric utilities and the electricity they provide have become so fully incorporated into our daily and professional lives that the only time we notice it is when it is not available. We expect electricity will be available upon demand. To meet this expectation, electric utility professionals must be prepared to respond when the unexpected happens. Someday, somewhere a disaster will occur and the entire utility community will have to respond and provide recovery to restore service to millions of customers.

This session will review the response and recovery and the decisions that must be made throughout the entire process of the recovery and rebuilding effort.

Super Session 5
Thursday, April 24, 12:30 pm-2:30 pm

Energy and the Environment

Fossil fuels–such as coal, natural gas and oil–provide most of the energy used and at the same time impact the environment across geographical scales. Achieving sustainable and secure energy use requires that energy be developed from renewable and biological resources. It also needs to be produced by cleaner and more efficient technologies, and be used more efficiently and with greater conservation. This session examines the programs that are currently in place to reduce emissions, promote more energy efficient energy use and improve environmental quality without disrupting current energy supplies.
