Basics for Non-Engineering Professionals

Full conference registration is not required to attend the short
course. The focus of this course is to provide a thorough foundation in
electric power systems planning, operations and economics and various
regulatory frameworks. Basic electrical terminology and concepts are
explained in simple to understand terms with regards to design,
construction, operations and maintenance of power plants, substations
and transmission and distribution lines. Basic electrical safety
concepts are included.
Participants will gain insight into the concerns of engineers, the
demands of regulators and consumer groups and a perspective of how
these factors play a major role in the operations of today’s electric
power systems.
The course outline includes an introduction and brief history,
fundamentals of electric power, generation and transmission,
distribution and utilization, power system protection, power system
operation and interconnection and regulation.
